5 Reasons the Health Sector Needs Better Connectivity

[Market News, Selling on Cloudscene] January 28, 2022 3 AM

The COVID-19 pandemic has radically transformed how the health sector operates and interacts with its patients. We’ve taken a look into this shift to better understand how network connectivity has not only helped maintain a sense of normalcy in these difficult times but improved upon certain aspects of the healthcare industry. Here are 5 reasons why the health sector needs better connectivity:

1. More demand

As of July 2021, telemedical services were used 38 times more than before the pandemic. A survey of health professionals found that 73% of respondents experienced a higher volume of telephone-based care since the start of the pandemic, with 60% reporting an increase in video consultations. These figures indicate that the demand for virtual appointments has increased dramatically since the beginning of the pandemic and that the need for reliable network connectivity has never been higher.

2. Improve patient and health care worker experience

Telehealth appointments can be beneficial to both the patient and the healthcare worker. Virtual consultations afford nurses and physicians the flexibility to work remotely and allow patients to receive care from the comfort and privacy of their homes.

3. Help with staff shortages

Medical professionals have experienced significant burnout over the past few years, with as many as 1 in 5 healthcare workers resigning since the start of the pandemic. Telehealth services can help mitigate the stress of staff shortages by enabling health professionals to support patients virtually, without putting undue pressure on physical medical facilities.

4. Provide better training

Online training platforms allow healthcare workers to pursue further training anywhere and anytime they want. An example of this is AI-driven simulation labs that train them to safely deal with complicated medical situations and practice better patient care. These online tools can help to improve their face-to-face practices and can shape how they interact with medical technology in the future.

5. Transparency and admin assistance

The most widely used aspect of telemedicine may be electronic health records (EHR). EHR’s facilitate streamlined communication between different healthcare providers, reducing practitioner workload and the risk of administrative errors. Telecom technologies can help medical professionals achieve what is known as the ‘triple aim’: improving health outcomes, enhancing the patient experience and curtailing costs.
